Oscars viewership increased, proving live events remain an important ad opportunity

The news: Oscars viewership was up about 1% from last year, averaging 19.7 million viewers across ABC and Hulu, slightly more than the previous four-year high of 19.49 million viewers, per Nielsen. The difference could boil down to the program being live streamed for the first time on Hulu, despite the stream presenting its own slew of technical difficulties.
