Eli Lilly’s Oscars ad aims to establish brand as trusted source of prescription drugs

The news: An Eli Lilly ad that aired during the Oscars on Sunday night warned consumers against the dangers of unregulated medications. The “Healthy Skepticism” campaign will also have print ad placements in a range of prominent media publications, per Fierce Pharma.

The commercial includes voices of friends, podcast hosts, and others who endorse non-FDA-approved drugs. The words, “Trust me, bro,” then appear in larger text, implying that people who push unregulated medicines don’t have a legitimate source to support their stance. The ad ends by urging viewers to be healthy skeptics while noting that evidence-based, approved medicine “doesn’t need your faith.”

Why it matters: The ad didn’t mention compounded weight loss drugs, though it’s clear that companies like Hims & Hers were a target.
